How to choose the right hydraulic filter element in a hydraulic system?

2025-09-05

1. Filtering accuracy
The selection needs to be based on the requirements of various components in the hydraulic system for the cleanliness of the oil. Precision components such as proportional valves require high cleanliness of the oil, requiring the use of filter cartridges with high filtration accuracy. Generally, they should be able to filter out impurities of a few microns in size, and filter cartridges with a size of 3 or 5 microns may be more suitable. However, for some ordinary gear pumps and directional valves, the requirements are relatively lower, and filter cartridges with precision of 10 microns or 20 microns may be sufficient.
2. Traffic
The rated flow rate of the filter element must be greater than or equal to the maximum working flow rate of the hydraulic system. For example, if the maximum flow rate of the system is 100 liters per minute, then a filter element with a rated flow rate of at least 100 liters per minute should be selected to ensure that the oil can pass through the filter element smoothly without causing excessive pressure loss or insufficient oil supply due to insufficient flow rate of the filter element.
3. Voltage resistance capability
The pressure resistance value of the filter element should be higher than the maximum working pressure of the hydraulic system. If the maximum working pressure of the system is 30MPA, the pressure resistance value of the filter element should be at least 35MPA or even higher, in order to ensure that the filter element will not be damaged due to excessive pressure during system operation, ensuring filtration efficiency and system safety.
